The UK has introduced a post-Brexit points-based immigration system.
This brings with it the biggest change to immigration law in the UK for 50 years. The new
system significantly alters employment regulations for UK businesses and affects:
- EU nationals who are already working and residing in the UK;
- The ways employers recruit new EU workers from abroad; and
- The type of documents and verifications employers will need to undertake in respect of their entire workforce, including EU nationals.
Failure to comply with the new regulations could result in missing out on high-quality international hires; immigration enforcement against workers who don’t have permission to stay; and hefty fines – or even criminal sanctions – against employers who flout the rules.
If you are an HR professional or owner-manager of SME businesses, there are several ways you can prepare now to make sure your business is protected.
